Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED Lens

A remarkable 105 mm FX-format prime lens with bright f/1.4 aperture. Crafted to inspire new levels of artistry in portraiture, this is an exceptional lens with a unique character.

This distinctive portrait lens builds upon a legacy of excellence that stretches all the way back to the renowned NIKKOR 105mm f/2.5. Designed to perfectly capture every nuance, the all-new optical construction ensures outstanding edge-to-edge sharpness, contrast, and resolution. Bokeh is exquisitely smooth, and subjects are sharply rendered even when shooting at the widest aperture of f/1.4. Whether you’re working with available light or in the studio, images boast a depth and dimension that are truly memorable.

As the world’s first*1 autofocus lens with a focal length of 105mm and an aperture of f/1.4, the FX-format AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED brings innovation to advance the boundaries of imaging excellence. Revel in the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED’s superior optical performance that delivers high resolution across the entire frame for dramatically sharp images that are rich in detail. The 105mm focal length*2 and fast f/1.4 maximum aperture ensures evenly lit and high-contrast images even from a distance, making it a versatile performer for indoor portraits, intimate weddings, and outdoor nightscapes. Its three Extra-low Dispersion glass elements and Nano Crystal Coat optimise sharpness and contrast, while fluorine coat ensures easy maintenance and lens durability. Crafted to produce natural and beautiful bokeh, it is the ultimate lens for exceptional portrait and street photography.

Distinctive character: f/1.4 maximum aperture and 105 mm focal length

This FX-format prime lens will perfectly reflect your personal aesthetic. The 105 mm focal length combines with a shortest focusing distance of 1 m to enable frame-filling head-shots without the need to crop. The unique optical design enables every component of the scene to be faithfully reproduced: even when shooting wide-open, the finest fabrics can be captured in all their beauty. And the rounded 9-blade diaphragm produces stunning bokeh, and enables sensitive depth-of-field control.

Exquisite bokeh: depth and dimension

Thanks to its unique optical construction, this lens offers wonderfully smooth bokeh and can endow subjects with a beautifully natural-looking sense of depth. The intensity of image blur transitions smoothly as the distance from the sharply focused point increases, enabling bokeh with no rough edges. And the fine gradation of bokeh from the focus point to the background renders images with an incredible sense of natural depth. The benefits extend to movies, too: when pulling focus, bokeh transitions incredibly smoothly, providing a unique advantage when it comes to filming atmospheric scenes.

Drawing with light: unbeatable performance when shooting wide-open

The AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED enables exceptional aesthetic control. Subjects are rendered with perfect clarity even when shooting at the widest aperture of f/1.4. Sagittal coma flare is effectively minimised for superior reproduction of point light sources as fine rounded points, even at the edges of an image. Peripheral light falloff is controlled to retain brightness across the frame, and subjects located at the edge of the frame are sharp and well resolved, even when shooting at maximum aperture with focus set to infinity.

Legendary NIKKOR quality

Nine rounded aperture blades decrease diffraction, delivering faithful reproduction of a scene’s elements. AE control is rendered exceptionally stable—even during a high-speed burst—thanks to the incorporation of an electromagnetic aperture control mechanism in the lens barrel. Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces ghost and flare, and autofocus is smooth, quiet, and swift as a result of Nikon’s SWM (Silent Wave Motor). Three extra-low-dispersion (ED) glass elements minimise axial chromatic aberration. The front and rear lens elements are protected and made easier to clean by Nikon’s fluorine coat, which effectively repels dust, dirt, water, and grease.

A LOW-LIGHT POWERHOUSE THAT DELIVERS UNDER ANY CONDITION

Designed to excel under the most challenging lighting conditions, the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED is capable of focusing quickly for superb images in low-light. With f/1.4 maximum aperture, you can shoot at faster shutter speeds under low-light conditions and capture remarkably sharp images, while the responsive electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism ensures stable auto-exposure control even during high-speed continuous shooting. This results in images that are outstandingly crisp and vivid even in low-light situations within buildings and dimly-lit rooms.

ASTOUNDING IMAGES THAT ARE RICH IN DETAIL

Add a dramatic sense of depth to your compositions with the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED. The ultra-fast portrait lens attains amazingly high resolution across the entire frame including the peripheral areas with sharp and clear rendering at the centre. Superior optical performance is achieved through NIKKOR’s unique “three-dimensional high-fidelity” design concept, allowing for smooth and beautiful bokeh with gradual alteration from the focus planes and a natural depth of field. The nine-blade rounded diaphragm creates a smooth and rounded bokeh, while the enhanced depth of field delivers images that truly stand out.

UNSURPASSED DURABILITY, UNMATCHED COLOUR BALANCE

Enjoy the freedom to capture sharp and vibrant images even under harsh and bright lighting conditions. Engineered with three Extra-low Dispersion glass elements that reduce chromatic aberration to enhance sharpness and contrast, and Nano Crystal Coat to minimise ghosting and flare, the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED resolves portraits, landscapes, and even night sceneries with unmatched colour balance and picture details. A fluorine coating is applied to the extreme front and rear lens surfaces for extra durability to repel dust, water droplets, grease, and dirt for easy maintenance no matter where your photographic journey takes you.

The large, smooth and beautiful bokeh effect reproduces the natural depth of subjects

An original optical system of 105mm f/1.4 creates a large bokeh effect with a shallow depth of field, while enabling impressive scene capture and a moderate telephoto compression effect for exquisite photographic expression. Inheriting the concept of “three-dimensional high fidelity” from the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G, this medium-telephoto lens is designed so that, when shooting near subjects, the focus plane delivers as much sharpness as possible while providing smooth alteration of bokeh as the distance from the focus plane increases, achieving natural reproduction of the subject’s depth. This lens also features excellent bokeh characteristics with less color fringing or unnatural edges.

High resolution even in the peripheral areas, sharp rendering of distant subjects even at the maximum aperture, and high reproduction capability of point light sources are achieved

Sharp rendering is attained for shooting distant subjects throughout the aperture range from the maximum, and when the lens is stopped down by several stops, an extremely high-definition image is realized across the entire frame. In addition, when shooting distant scenes in low-light situations, point light sources are reproduced as point images with minimized sagittal coma flare, an aberration where a point image located at the peripheries forms a conspicuous image resembling a bird spreading its wings, resulting in clear and crisp night landscape shots.

High-quality images can be captured with reduced chromatic aberration and minimal ghost and flare effects

The employment of three ED glass elements reduces chromatic aberration (especially axial chromatic aberration) while enhancing sharpness and contrast, and Nano Crystal Coat delivers outstandingly high anti-reflection effect throughout the visible light range, effectively minimizing ghost and flare effects even under harsh lighting.

The latest design technologies that realize various breakthroughs such as the adoption of an AF system for a 105mm f/1.4 lens, combined with NIKKOR’s unique design concept of “three-dimensional high fidelity”, make this Nikon original lens the one-and-only prime lens

Utilizing the high optical technologies that Nikon has long accumulated, a traditional 105 mm focal-length lens with fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is realized incorporating an AF system, making the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED a very individual fast, medium-telephoto lens that enables creative image expression. The bright finder image achieved with this fast, prime lens that reliably supports comfortable shooting is effective in handheld shooting for low-light scenes as well. While ensuring impressive subject depiction for shooting portraits and still objects utilizing the large and beautiful bokeh with gradual transition from the focus plane, this lens also delivers excellent distant shots with high resolution even at the periphery and high reproduction capability of point light sources in low-light situations. The latest technologies also provide stable AE with highly accurate diaphragm control even during high-speed continuous shooting, via the adoption of an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism.

Fluorine coat with high antifouling performance for easy maintenance

Nikon’s original fluorine coat that effectively repels dust, water droplets, grease or dirt for easy removal even if they adhere to the lens surface is applied to the extreme front and rear surfaces. Compared to other manufacturers’ coatings of a similar kind, fluorine coat endures a higher frequency of lens surface wiping and provides longer-duration staying power. It also features superb anti-reflection effect, ensuring the capture of clear images.
