The Zeiss Distagon T* 2/35 ZE 35mm f/2 Lens For Canon [1762850] is a medium wide-angle lens, ideal to capture any scene in all its natural brilliance - with nothing escaping its gaze, even in low-light situations. It is particularly well-suited to journalistic applications.

Featuring a fast f/2 maximum aperture, this lens also excels in difficult lighting conditions and offers fine-tuned control over selective focus placement. Utilizing the Distagon optical design with a floating elements system, which includes one element made from glass with anomalous partial dispersion, distortion and aberrations are minimized and high sharpness is afforded edge to edge. Additionally, a Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to elements in order to suppress lens flare and ghosting for maintained contrast and clarity.

The sophisticated optical design is housed within a robust metal lens barrel, which features an aperture control ring with 1/2 EV click-stops. The manual focusing ring offers a tempered 113° rotation angle for fine-tuned control, and engraved depth of field and distance scales benefit the use of pre-focusing techniques. This ZE-series lens is dedicated to Canon EF-mount cameras, and features an electronic interface to support camera-based adjustment over exposure settings.

Prime wide-angle lens is designed for Canon EF-mount DSLRs and 35mm film cameras. It is also compatible with APS-C-format DSLRs, where it will provide a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 56mm.

This lens features the Distagon optical design with a floating element construction and includes one partial dispersion element to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion while offering increased sharpness and even illumination.

Zeiss T* anti-reflective coatings have been applied to each lens surface to help minimize reflections in order to provide greater image clarity, contrast, and color fidelity.

All-metal lens barrel features an aperture control ring with 1/2 EV click-stops.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to an aesthetic out-of-focus quality.

Manual focus design is benefitted by the inclusion of both distance and depth of field scales for precise control.

This ZE-series lens supports Canon DSLRs' electronic interface for camera-based control over exposure settings and in-camera focus confirmation.

Make the most of the moment

A mere second can make the difference between a simple snap and a truly great image. Make sure that you capture every decisive moment with the Distagon T* 2/35.

Its compact design and the short, precise angle of focus rotation make it particularly suitable for journalistic photography. And with its high performance and versatility, it is always ready for the unexpected.

When wide angle views go to extremes and beg the control via an SLR viewfinder, which means that the back focal distance has to be much larger than the focal length, a retrofous design called Distagon is the right choice.

Homogeneous image quality throughout the image field

ZEISS lenses are famous for their extraordinary image quality. Even with challenging subjects, perspective, color and light are optimally rendered – throughout the entire 35 mm image field. For this reason, we place great emphasis on particularly high image quality, e.g. low distortion and outstanding stray light reduction for rich colors.

Excellent image quality

The Carl Zeiss range of T* lenses offers the highest possible standards in terms of performance, reliability and, of course, image quality. Quite simply, they are superior in every way. You can count on highly advanced flare control for crisp and brilliant images, for example. And virtually zero geometric distortion, ensuring precise accuracy when reproducing shapes – especially useful when photographing products and architecture.

Precise manual focus

Manually focusing a lens means controlling the image result from your fingertips. A good ergonomic design makes all the difference. Carl Zeiss SLR lenses stand out with their large rotation angle which enables precise focusing. Changes are immediately visible in the viewfinder. The high-quality focusing mechanism moves smoothly without play, thus also supporting the intuitive interaction with the focal plane. The precise engraving in meter and feet, and the depth of focus scale provide additional support for manually focusing.

Floating Elements Design

State-of-the-art camera techniques and high-resolution digital image sensors increasingly demand more from the lenses. The modern floating element design compensates aberrations of the Carl Zeiss SLR lenses at different distance settings. This is accomplished by changing the axial distance of single lens elements or element groups to each other. The adjustment of the element distance is coupled to the distance setting so that it always results in the right correction. The mechanical design of these lens elements is very complex and the workmanship must be particularly exact – both specialties of Carl Zeiss.

Carl Zeiss T* anti-reflective coating

All lens elements in SLR lenses from Carl Zeiss feature the T* anti-reflective coating and an optical design that produces brilliant pictures even in unfavorable lighting conditions. We vacuum deposit very thin, transparent coats on the surfaces of the lens elements to make them anti-reflective. Special substances, one by one, are vaporized with very high energy in a high vacuum, which are then deposited on the glass surface as a coating with precisely controlled thicknesses to achieve the desired reduction of reflections. The first coatings were applied by Carl Zeiss back in the 1930s.
